happy happy joy joy

After calling the lovely people at Amazon, informing them that UPS had misdelivered both of my packages this week, and having them prepare a new shipment to send to me when I return from the beach, I left my house a half hour ago to find both my packages sitting on my doorstep. Yay! Sea Shanties! Other songs! Now I'll have to do the honorable thing and cancel the new Amazon order.

The first CD I opened (not the sea shanties) is absolutely stunning. I'm preparing to issue a Max Five-Star This Album Rocks my World and I'll Probably Listen To it A Million Times And Put It On The Top Shelf With Fates, Tori, Igor, Peter, and the Kevins Recommendation. But I want to hear the rest of the album first (which may take a while, it's one of those where you keep having to go back and listen again every time a track ends.)

Woohoo! The hills are alive, etc.

Porcupine Tree's In Absentia has earned the Max Five-Star This Album Rocks my World and I'll Probably Listen To it A Million Times And Put It On The Top Shelf With Fates, Tori, Igor, Peter, and the Kevins. It's been quite a while since any artist has made this shelf...I think the most recent was Kevin Gilbert, and that was probably back in '96 or so.

I am blown away by all the melody, atmosphere, and harmony they've packed into this CD. It's been a good five years or so since I've been this blown away by a new CD. I was beginning to think my personality had changed and I just didn't get blown away anymore.

People who aren't me might want to skip the heavy metalish bits, but they're few and far between (the heavy metalish bits, not people who aren't me). Cool people who can access the Apple Music Store should check out "Blackest Eyes" and "The Sound of Muzak."

Particularly pleasing to people who are me is that Steve Wilson's voice is the closest thing I've heard to what mine would sound like if I was good at singing. It gives me something to study and shoot for.

Happy me.

Next up on the new CD playlist is Garmarna: Vengeance. Then two "cheaper than food" Nordic Roots Samplers, then Stravinsky. And then...Sea Shanties!
