peddling of wares

Posted on 2005.09.01 at 14:02
Current Mood: artisticartistic
tomorrow I head to the dusty Ohio outback to attempt to peddle some art. The place will be full of rocks and stones and crafts and beads and jewelry and weapons and a whole bunch of people who think technology reached its apex in 70,000 B.C.

Need a bow and arrow? Need to learn how to craft your own arrowheads for use in the coming zombie apocalypse? Need lots of shiny rocks? Don't need indoor plumbing? This is the place to be.

Anyway, I'll be set up saturday and most of sunday. Visitors are welcome. When you get lost .39 miles from your destination, call me on my cel.

Back late sunday/early monday.

1. My heart goes out to the people of N'awlins. But for future reference, maybe one should not build a coastal city six feet below sea level. On the other hand, at least it takes a major weather event to flood N'awlins, unlike SOME places...

2. Immature, peurile British.

3. If I ever start drinking during the day, someone please shoot me. Seriously.

I'm not going very far out to sea ( i hear it can get rough out there without a boat), but i'm heading out to sea nonetheless...

everything is not yet ruined, but It's getting there...maybe it's about 65% ruined right now...also, in all the ruining, I'm getting closer to the painting style I hope to achieve. Of course, much to my chagrin, I'm still no this guy.

need to find a better way to photograph my paintings...having a lot of problems with color and glare.

Starting a new painting today. Got a lot of resistance from Maria on the last one: "Don't ruin this!" "Don't ruin that!" Important, then, to make her understand from the get-go that this new painting will not be finished until, indeed. everything is ruined.

Does Gallup just get really bored when it's not an election year?

The interesting detail they glossed over is that apparently 5% of Americans believe that houses can be haunted even though there's no such thing as ghosts. Who's doing the haunting, I wonder?

Normally, I dislike it when people do things that might cause me to crash my car. Suicidal pedestrians, aggressive drivers, bad drivers, old drivers, just plain stupid drivers...they all tend to piss me off. There are a few hazardous people towards whom I'm more forgiving (topless sunbathers on flagstaff, for example) but mostly, yeah, don't like those guys.

But who would try to kill me today, as I was taking anisodragnfly to the airport? There's apparently an airshow of some sort. Some stunt fliers doing loops, cool and all, but I was trying to keep my eyes on the road. Then one of them shoots straight up in the air. And I, being a sometime military airplane junkie, know that there are not many planes in the world that can move vertically at such speeds.
Was he actually accelerating vertically? Cuz there's very few planes that can do that.

Jenn and I took a while to figure out whether it was the Thunderbirds or the Blue Angels (who have a history of stalking her). Turns out it was the $#@&*ing Thunderbirds. Sweeeeet.

And I guess, while they did cause me to take my eyes off the road, they also caused half the other cars to actually pull over, thus making the road safer and helping us get to the airport in time.

I was feeling a little down about having to drive and being unable to watch them do their crazy stuff. But then, just after I let Jenn out and was getting back into the car, one of 'em buzzed the terminal. He can't have been higher than a hundred feet in the air. That was pretty damn awesome.

So, yeah, the Thunderbirds have permission to endanger me and my car anytime.

Anyone wanna help me write the rest of this song? All I've got is the chorus (to the tune of "A Common Disaster"):

won't you share a homo ergaster
share with me a homo ergaster
ooo-oh, a homo ergaster

I'm thinking it should be written from the perspective of something that would eat an early hominid. It must be written, cuz I don't see how else "homo ergaster" is ever going to fit in a song.

I'm very excited about iTunes 4.9 and podcasts. But I'm having difficulty finding any I care to listen to. However, I just found a cool blues cast, complete with history lessons...

EDIT: No, Mav, it's not as cool as the history lesson we got from the Blues Krew dude. But still cool.

BTW, note to everyone: If you ever have the good fortune to see the Blues Krew perform, be sure to request a Stevie Ray Vaughn song.

EDIT again: Apparently the iTunes link sucks. Try this.

...spent most of it hanging out with M-Funk*, painting. She is painting the abstract painting to end all abstract paintings, I'm painting the abstract painting to begin all abstract paintings. It is thus essential that she finish before I do, because otherwise there will be no more abstract paintings. But perhaps she has a secret traditionalist streak, because she's filling her painting with tiny meticulous patterns while insisting that I not touch large swaths of color in my painting, ostensibly because they're "pretty," but I think she just knows that, if I don't touch those areas, I really don't have much left to do, and will therefore finish first. She also insists on not painting unless I'm there painting, too. So perhaps I will have to start using very small brushes to slowly go about making all the black spots on my canvas all that much blacker.

Am now bracing for the annual week without a Cage. This won't be pretty.

I thought of a plot!

It's very elaborate and clever, and it even has coincidental biblical allusions. And pirates.

Unfortunately, it's all for backstory, and its relevance to the story I'm actually writing may only merit it a paragraph or two, with many clever details left out.

But still, I thought of a plot!

logan tagged me. also ratha tagged me. i guess i'm double-tagged.

Last books purchased: A Book of Luminous Things and Devils

Total # of books: Somewhere between 200 and 400. I really don't wanna get the exact number.

5 books of relevance:

Reference: Dictionary of Ancient Deities
Essays: Poetics of Music
Science: Hyperspace
Novel: Moby Dick
Instruction: Dynamic Figure Drawing

must I tag? I bet the people I tag have been tagged already. Or maybe even done the thing and I've forgotten. oh well.

I've changed the format slightly. It's supposed to go: last book purchased, total number of books you own, five books that mean a lot to you (they needn't be classified as mine are) and then tag five people, if you must. okay, I added the if you must.
